SUPPORT TEACHERS' PICK FOR CLC BOARD
Published: Daily Herald– Sunday, April 01, 2007
Dear Editor:
The on-going abuse of public funds (Daily Herald's expose on 3/8/07 which
just touched the tip of the iceberg) and the absence of communication and
awareness between college employees, students and the community from the CLC
Board of Trustees are among reasons I sought election to a CLC trustee position
in 2003.
As a candidate, I met with many people working and studying
at CLC. Many different views were shared; however, the dedication and pride
are consistent and deserve inclusion in the governing process.
For many years there has been a dearth of accountability, communication
and openness on the CLC Board, except for Trustee Robert Anderson, who chose
not to seek re-election. We should thank him for his ethics, efforts to engage
the CLC employees and students, and his perseverance in upholding his standards.
Bob will be greatly missed.
We now have the opportunity to start closing that gap between the CLC Board
and everybody else. Thankfully, the CLC Federation of Teachers has formed
a political action committee (CLCFT-PAC) that is fully engaged in the election/selection
process.
Their mission includes helping elect Board candidates who support
the goals and objectives of the community college movement and of CLC students
and faculty. We now have the opportunity to elect candidates with valuable
experience and trustworthy leadership, the CLCFT-PAC's endorsed candidates:
O. H. Michael Smith and John W. Lumber.
For detailed information see: www.clcft-pac.org
<http://www.clcft-pac.org/> . CLC and the community can count on John
W. Lumber and O. H. Smith to honor their elected position.
