I RECOMMEND…THE CLC FACULTY ENDORSED CANDIDATES
Not yet published
I recently went to a forum held by the College of Lake County Faculty to meet
the two candidates they are endorsing for the CLC Board of Trustees, John
W. Lumber and O.H. Michael Smith. The coffee was too strong, the tea was too
weak, but fortunately the candidates were just right.
John W. Lumber has an understanding of Lake County that only comes from living
and working and caring about it for a lifetime. From an elementary teacher
in Ingleside, to a high school teacher in North Chicago, to a history professor
at CLC, he has a clear understanding of students and the pivotal role educators
can have in their lives. After all that teaching and also 22 years experience
as a Dean at the College of Lake County, he speaks with a reasoned passion
and a solid commitment about creating opportunities of learning for all Lake
County residents. What’s not to like!
O.H. Michael Smith is often described in local newspapers as, “works
in a local bookstore,” as he does in his retirement, but they unfortunately
neglect the fact that he is also a retired professor from a couple of well-known
universities and has worked as an administrator in a community college. So
it makes sense that he speaks with authority and has good ideas about how
CLC can be an exciting resource for folks in Lake County. In addition, he
was a project manager for the Center for Neighborhood Technology, an organization
in Chicago that, according to their website, “is dedicated to making
households, neighborhoods, and regions more efficient, more economically viable,
and more equitable.” Sounds good to me!
So, thank you CLC faculty. You’ve given me an extra special reason to
go to the polls on April 17. I hope others do the same.
